Job description

The SHERQ Manager will be responsible for providing support to the Head of Terminals RB, GMs, Managers, SHERQ Line Managers and SHERQ Officers. This position will provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day SHERQ requirements of the organisation. Ensure compliance to the OHS Act, NEEMA, Rail safety Regulator standards, South African Marine association, National Nuclear Regulator, ISO Certification, GFS requirements and both legal and regulatory requirements that might be required. 
Internal ( Team) Interaction (information, support, advice):

Management, support and coordination of SHERQ Line Managers and Officers. Auditing of High risk and Environmental standards, advising both operations and maintenance General Manager on SHERQ related matters, attend all SHERQ related meetings, ensure all contractors on site are permitted to be on site, attend site meetings with contractors, including risk assessments, ensure security service provider is adhering to contractual obligations, compile reports for Worktrainer and monthly data; review of SHERQ procedures, coordinate and conduct internal ISO Audits, coordinate external ISO audit system reviews, draft SHERQ Budget and ensure compliance thereof

External Interaction (information, support, advice, persuasion/ negotiation):
Liaise with government departments, auditing bodies, head office internal audit, attend customers audits, assist contractors to collate documentation for safety file, ensure visitors are aware of risks on site, interact with service providers such as security officers, conduct supplier audits, Review Radiation Management programme procedures, attend audits conducted by National Nuclear regulator, Review Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) procedures, attend audits conducted by Rail Safety Regulator and ensure successful application and maintenance of RSR permit requirements.

Minimum requirements

  • Preferable a B.Tech Degree in Safety Management or minimum of a National Diploma in Safety Management
  • Certified lead auditor: Integration of Management Systems ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 (2015), with at least 2 years auditing experience
  • Diploma is Environmental management
  • Applicable training and certification in OSH Act, CIOD Act, Environmental legislation (NEEMA)
