Introduction
A challenging opportunity has become available for a self-motivated, driven and innovative individual to join Grindrod Multi-Purpose Terminals a Division of Grindrod SA Ops (Pty) Ltd at Mydon Wharf Terminals.
Grindrod Multi-Purpose Terminals is looking to secure a position of a permanent Terminal Supervisor to join the team. All suitably internal and external qualified candidates are invited to apply for this vacancy. The successful candidate will be required to work alternating shifts including alternate weekends.
Job description
The responsibilities of the successful applicant will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Planning movement of work through the terminal to meet client requirements.
• Utilizing terminal space efficiently.
• Ensuring daily shift planning is efficient and effectively communicated.
• Supervising employees.
• Planning of staff in line with operational requirements, including rosters
• Reporting of performance and deviations in line with targets, and with client requirements
• Co-ordinating with clients, suppliers, agents and labour in order to meet operational requirements
• Ensuring client’s stock requirements are met.
• Supervising all movements.
• Terminal cleaning and maintenance.
• Managing the team effectively to capitalized on productivity.
• Control and co-ordinate activities to minimize overtime.
• Compliance with OHS Act and regulations and other statutes as applicable.
• Daily inspection of equipment and machinery.
• Ensuring terminal surfaces are in a safe condition.
• Reporting any Training and licensing needs to Line Manager Operations.
• Ensuring all staff comply with safety requirements.

Minimum requirements
• Grade 12
• Must be educated to degree level and/or have a recognized qualification in operations management, logistics or shipping
• 3 years team leader or supervisory experience within the relevant industry.
• Good verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills
• Intermediate computer skills utilizing MS Office Suites including other applications (MS Excel and Word required).
• Experience working at the bulk terminal, or any such similar will be an added advantage.
• Ability to supervise and motivate a workforce.
• Safety, health, and environmental requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organisation.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Must be able to travel from work during, and outside of, normal working hours.
