An exciting opportunity has become available for a self-motivated, highly driven and innovative individual to join Grindrod Rail Consultancy Services (Pty) Ltd at their offices in Northern Cape in the position of Site Manager. All suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for this vacancy.
Job description

The responsibilities of the successful applicant will include, but are not limited to the following:  
 
Key Performance Area:  

  • Effectively communicate to Management and client
  • Guide and supervise team members to ensure high level of customer service to client by constant monitoring, communicating and interacting to build strong relationships
  • Responsible for actively providing quality input and oversee all operational network changes where applicable
  • Work effectively with Industry Experts and/or 3rd parties to ensure safe operations.
  • Improve quality output and performance through a proactive management system
• Safety

  • Maintain the Safety Management System - Overall compliance to, and maintenance of the safety system (SPCAM) in accordance with RSR (Rail Safety Regulator) including the contractor’s pack
  • Perform risk Assessments annually and or after an incident 
  • Conduct Safety Inspections and Task Observations 
  • Reporting of incident, accident and I.O.Ds
  • Ensure compliance to safety requirements in accordance with the mining sector
  • Attend to Incidents and Accidents 
• Manage subordinates

  • Supervisor
  • Train Driver 
  • Train Assistants/Shunters  
• Manage compliance of sub ordinates 

  • Training 
  • Fit for duty 
  • Process – Train Working Rules 
  • Rostering 
  • Disciplinary 
  • Medicals
• Liaise with Technical Team

  • Planning and monitoring of Locomotive Services 
  • Spare parts required
  • Locomotive service records – Daily, Monthly, Quarterly and Annually 
  • Unplanned maintenance / breakdowns 
  • Record keeping 
• Liaise with Procurement Team / Stores  

  • Order spares in accordance with service schedule / lead times
  • Monthly stock take – Spares in hand 
  • Record keeping 
• Administrative 

  • Responsible for all record keeping of documents in Operations, Loco Maintenance, Safety, Procurement, Stores and Finance
  • Liaise with management if overspending of petty cash is required

Minimum requirements

Qualifications:  
 
  • Grade 12
  • Diploma/Certificate in Train Driver Duties. (Train Working Rules) from a registered institution
  • Certified in Diesel Electric Locomotive from a registered institution
  • Certified in Compressed Air Brake System from a registered institution
  • (Undergraduate degree in Logistic Management will be an advantage)
Experience:  
 
  • Minimum 5 Years experience in Rail Operations 
  • 3 Year Section Manager or higher level of management in Rail Operations  
  • Procurement and Store keeping will be an advantage
  • Heavy Haul Trains as an advantage
  • Locomotive Technical knowledge will be an advantage
