Manage and maintain the financial accounting function for the Corporate Services head office function, with focus on fixed assets, procurement, financial reporting and other finance related projects.
Job description

SAP Fixed Asset:

  • Update and maintenance of the fixed asset policy for approval by CFO and distribution to all the SAP divisions
  • SAP asset accountant reports into the role
  • Approve all deviations from Grindrod group asset policy – useful life / residual value
  • Provide support to SAP team when doing new company take-on’s / mergers / acquisitions
  • Make sure the internal control framework related to assets is followed and be audit ready
  • Current On-going Project: Automation of asset forms and capitalisation via PO process. Update FAR policy / framework.

 PROCUREMENT:

  • Support for the procurement specialist in making sure department is adequately trained and staffed and fulfilling Group expectations.
  • Procurement specialist reports into the role
  • Provide assistance for high-level issues 
  • Review procurement policy
HFM:
  • Consolidation accountant reports into the role
  • Maintain relationship and SLA with the external service provider
  • Manage and approve changes to masterdata / users in line with approved framework
  • Ensure SAP masterdata is aligned with HFM masterdata
  • Ensure all reporting packs are fit for purpose and contain all information required for internal and external reporting
  • Drive improvements on the reporting of all financial information and the Group reporting tool.
  • Long-term project: Current HFM will be unsupported from 2030 need to work with IT to find a viable and cost-effective solution for Group consolidation reporting.
FINANCIAL REPORTING:
  • Prepare / provide input for various Board reports / external reporting requirements including AFS, Integrated Annual report, Board reports, Monthly Exec reports, Quarterly CEO report / travel / professional fees
  • Review various group AFS as required
  • Support for divisions and other head office teams (Tax / Treasury / Internal Audit / Business Development) when there is corporate action (restructures / acquisitions etc) within the Group
  • Actively look for ways to rationalise the Group structure and work with the tax team to ensure this is done in the most tax efficient way
  • Lead group projects such as internal restructures and work with all stakeholders to deliver the project within deadlines
  • Send out group reporting deadlines and guidelines as required (Budgets / Year-End / Estimates / Monthly reporting)
 Compliance with Accounting Policies. Internal policies and legislation:

Ensure compliance of internal policies, rules, and procedures as well as legislation and best practice principles: 

  •  International Financial Reporting Standards/ International Accounting Statements, tax legislation, Companies Act, compliance, internal limit of authority.
  • Liaising with the group’s auditors and advisors on changes in the accounting standards and legislation.
  • Identifying the possible impact (quantitative and qualitative) to the group.
  • Communicating and discussing changes with the Divisional CFO’s and Financial Managers
  • Ensuring that Financial Managers understand changes to the Accounting Standards and Companies Act and other legislation changes through arranging seminars and one-on-one discussions.
  • Providing technical accounting expertise/opinions on current or future accounting transactions/processes within the group.
  • Updating the group accounting policies for changes in the accounting standards. 
SAP
  • Approve all consultants SAP access and review and approve the changes that were carried out by the SAP team / consultants
  • Work with Soterion specialist to ensure all divisions access is reviewed and approved bi-annually as per Internal Audit framework
  • Give finance support for any IT projects within the group (automation etc)
OTHER
  • Ad hoc support to the FD as required
  • Support Treasury in access maintenance on the banking platforms
  • Review and release of various divisions payments and PO’s
  • Maintain satisfactory internal audit reports for the Finance team

BCom Finance (Honours)

Preferred

CA(SA) Newly qualified

EXPERIENCE

2-3 Years in finance environment.
