Job description
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will include, but are not limited to the following:
Key Performance Area:
• Technical Front End Loading of Engineering Projects.
• Responsible for execution of engineering projects.
• Creation of technical scope documents for tender purposes.
• Major shutdown scope development and tender administration for contracted works.
• Ensures all scheduled small projects are carried out as planned through maintenance teams/contractors.
• Responsible for contractor engagement via the Grindrod Contractor engagement process.
• Manages relevant service providers working across sites.
• Ensures that all deviations to plans are addressed.
• Controls costs to avoid wasteful expenditure
• Continuously raises initiatives to improve maintenance performance and procedures.
• Ensures that the process of Engineering Change is adhered, according to company standards.
• Ensures compliance with Procurement Policy and Procedures
• Monitors and analyses costs to establish trends, puts initiatives in place to reduce costs
• Responsible for contractor engagement via the Grindrod Contractor engagement process.
• Keeps all project related documentation.
• Keeps and maintains all SHEQ related project documentation.
• Signs off timesheets of both internal and outsourced staff on projects.
• Submits own training requirements and follow up on training
• Produces monthly project reports indicating status and performance
• Ensures compliance with all SHERQ activities in the section (safety, health, environment, risk, and quality)
• Ensures contractor safety files are always up to date and relevant.
• Ensures work is allocated to staff/contractors and that it is executed correctly and safely.
• Supervises and manages artisans to obtain efficient and cost-effective equipment levels.
• Motivates and directs personnel to accomplish targets.
• Conducts quarterly performance appraisals.
• Adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
• Adheres to Labour Law
• Adheres to all other relevant legislation

Minimum requirements
- BTech/BEng/BSc Eng (Mechanical) with minimum 10 years’ relevant experience
OR National Diploma with minimum 15 years’ experience of progressively senior roles in a mining, port and terminal and bulk materials handling industries. Adjacent heavy industry with relevant material handling equipment exposure will be considered (conveyor belts, mobile equipment, tipplers, cranes and similar) - In addition to the above it is expected of the candidate to possess 3 to 5 years of managing a team of artisans with strong training and development content.
