Introduction
Grindrod Terminals is looking for a seasoned Mechanical Engineer. This role is suited to a skilled professional with strong technical expertise in mechanical systems, including conveyor systems, gearboxes, loaders, pumps, and compressors. This individual will be responsible for project execution, shutdown planning, and the development of technical specifications for tender processes, while ensuring full compliance with applicable legislation and company standards.
Job description
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (Conveyors systems, Gearboxes, loaders, Pumps, Compressors).
- Know and understand the applicable laws and regulations and the requirements of specific environment.
- Develop technical/design specification documents for tender purposes.
- Major shutdown scope development and tender administration for contracted works.
- Responsible for execution of Projects.
- Continuously raises initiatives to improve maintenance performance and procedures.
- Ensures that the process of Engineering Change is adhered, according to company standards.
- Keeps and maintains all SHEQ related project documentation.
- Signs off timesheets of both internal and outsourced staff on projects.
- Ensures compliance with all SHERQ activities in the section [safety, health, environment, risk, and quality].
- Conducts risk assessments for all major work.
- Ensure contractor safety files are always up to date and relevant.
- Assists Maintenance in compliance and rectify deviations on Internal and External Plant Audits.
- Ensures work is allocated to staff/contractors and that it is executed correctly and safely.
- Supervises and manages artisans to obtain efficient and cost-effective equipment levels.
- Adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Labour Law and all other relevant legislation.
Minimum requirements
- BSc Eng/BTech Mechanical Engineering.
- Formal Project Management Training.
- 5 to 8 years’ work experience in a similar environment. Must come from heavy industry with either mining or materials handling exposure.
- Exposure to Supervisory duties.
- Keyboard and PC skills and knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing packages and SAP PM.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001 and 55001.
