Job description

  • Communicate to management.
  • Communicate with clients
  • Ensure quality service delivery to client by constant monitoring, communicating and interaction with subordinates. 
  • Responsible for actively providing quality input and oversight on operational network changes where applicable. 
  • Collaborate  with Industry Experts and/or 3rd parties to ensure safe operations and a quality client service. 
  • Improve quality output/performance through proactive management system. 
 
Safety
  • Maintain the Safety Management System - Overall compliance to, and maintenance of the safety system(SPCAM) in accordance with RSR (Rail Safety Regulator) including the contractor’s pack.
  • Risk Assessments and SOP revision annual and/or after an incident. 
  • Safety Inspections and Task Observations. 
  • Reporting – Incident / Accident / I.O.D.
  • Compliance to safety requirements in accordance with the mining sector. 
  • Attend to Incidents / Accidents Compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Appointed in legal liability position as per site requirement.
 
Manage Subordinates
  • Supervisor 
  • Train Driver 
  • Train Assistants/Shunters 
 
Manage Compliance of Subordinates

Liaise with Technical Team 
  •  Planning and monitoring of Locomotive Services Spare parts required. 
  •  Locomotive service records.
  •  Daily, Monthly, Quarterly and Annually.
  •  Unplanned maintenance / breakdowns.
  •  Record keeping.
  •   Manage fleet vehicles.
  •  Ensure vehicles are maintained in a road worthy condition.
  • Ensure vehicles are compliant to site specific requirements.
  • Ensure vehicle users are licensed and authorized to use the vehicles.
  •  Manage fuel usage and prevent abuse of company assets.
 
Liaise with Procurement Team/Stores
  • Order spares in accordance with service schedule/lead times. 
  • Monthly stock take – spares in hand.
  •  Record keeping.
 
Administrative
  • Responsible for all record keeping of documents in Operations, Loco maintenance, Safety, Procurement, Stores and Finance. 
  • Liaise with management in overall management of sites including financial reporting including spenduture of petty cash. 
 
 

Minimum requirements

Qualifications
National Senior Certificate (Grade 12). 
 Diploma/Certificate in Train Driver Duties. (Train Working Rules) from a registered institution. 
Certified in Diesel Electric Locomotive from a registered institution. 
Certified in Compressed Air Brake System from a registered institution.
 
Experience
  •  Minimum of 5 years in Rail Operations.
  • 3 Year Section Manager or higher level of management in Rail Operations 
  •  Procurement and Store keeping will be an advantage.
  •   Heavy Haul Compressed Air brake trains. 
  •   Locomotive Technical knowledge will be an advantage.

  • Be able to drive or shunt 125 wagons trains, loaded or empty within prescribed rules, policies, and instructions
