Introduction
Sturrock Grindrod Maritime (Pty) Ltd is looking to secure the permanent services of a Freight Controller to join the King & Sons Cape Town or Durban office. All suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for this vacancy.
Job description
Reporting to the Line Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to:
· Receive and enter export bookings and VGMs onto the Principals Liner System
· Liaise with the Principal, Terminal, and Shippers on export stack dates.
· Arrange early/; late arrivals and follow up on undelivered export cargo
· Capture of LCL / FCL / Breakbulk Shipping instructions into Principals Liner System within set deadlines
· Create the manifest by capturing Shipping Instructions onto Principals Liner System
· Liaise with Operations and Contractors with regards to Carrier Haulage Deliveries
· Send out Arrival Notifications and Freight and Landside Charges for import cargo.
· Arrange Transhipment between vessels, including haulage
· Arrange Overstay/Customs exams for stopped/uncleared imports.
· Arrange Empty Repositioning
· Compile and send out Invoices to customers.
· Collect ocean freight, bills of entry, cargo dues, and relevant charges prior to release of bills/import cargo.
· Maintain files as per ISO 9001 requirements.
· Submit cargo dues on the OTC system when required for LCL / FCL / Empty shipments and Transhipments.
· Compile voyage estimates and purchase orders for Principals Finance Reporting purposes.
· Attend to all accounts queries
· Weekly freight collection reporting and follow ups on unpaid charges.
· Assist with overflow from other desks
· Send unfreighted manifests, lists and EDI to Port Authorities within set deadlines for exports and imports.
Minimum requirements

Qualification:
Matric/Grade 12
Relevant industry-related training and / or a relevant course in the maritime field

Experience:
A minimum of 1-year relevant shipping industry related experience required
