Introduction
A challenging opportunity has become available for a self-motivated, driven and innovative individual to be appointed as a Senior Customs Entry Operator. The successful candidate will be required to work alternating shifts including alternate weekends.
Job description

The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
 
Deliveries and collection of documents 
  • Verify Imports/ Exports documentation prior to framing.
  • Ensure correct tariff headings are used.
  • Follow up on all progress of shipments in Customs.
  • Follow up on Customs examinations and stops.
  • Ensure HUB queries are attended on time.
  • Ensure correct data is captured from invoices.
  • Ensure compliance report / remarks are up to date. 
  • Ensure correct procedure code and tariff are applied.  
  • Capture correct driver details when preparing documents.
  • Ensure pending files are updated and accurate at all times.
  • Ensure correct transport details are applied on all entries framed.
  • Ensure accurate info, value, as per invoice are used when preparing the entry.
  • Communicating and liaising with Shift supervisor to verify documents submitted.
  • Advise Customs Border Administrator if SADC levels are low & communicate to clients.
  • Ensure 100% upload of all scanned documents on Shipshape. And named correctly.
  • Ensure clearing instruction, Commercial invoice, email comms are uploaded on ShipShape per file.
  • Obtain relevant desired results for any ad hoc projects having prioritised it with other regular activities. 
  • Provide support when needed to shift supervisor and junior entry clerks by communicating with clients, Front Counter Supporters, Boarder representatives and KM4 staff.
 
People Management and HR Compliance
  • Assist with monitoring attendance and punctuality, and report and address attendance issues.
  • Support team development by identifying skill gaps and facilitating on-the-job training sessions.
  • Assist with team management and task delegation in your supervisor’s absence.
  • Assist with handling employees’ matters and disciplinary issues in your supervisor's absence. 
  • Promote adherence to policies, procedures, and ethical standards, escalating disciplinary matters to the supervisor when necessary.
  • Support the supervisor in fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture that boosts team morale and engagement.

Minimum requirements

Qualification / s 
  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Certificate in national freight forwarding and Customs compliance (NQF3).
  • SDS -S. A Customs Clearing part1 and/or 2 certificate. 
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Clearing and Forwarding industry and in a Corporate Environment
  • Previous experience in a freight, logistics, transport, customs, or border-related environment is strongly preferred.
 
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Good understanding of the importance of customs and clearing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Shipshape and the Quality Management System..
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer and smartphone literacy.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
