Introduction
The purpose of this role is to manage the end-to-end finance function for Bulk and Rail Operations across South Africa and Namibia, ensuring strong financial control, accurate and timely reporting, effective cost and cash management, and operational support to business performance. The role serves as a key finance business partner to operations and supports informed decision-making while ensuring compliance with Group and statutory requirements.
Job description
Financial Management & Business Partnering
- Support execution of financial strategy aligned to Bulk and Group objectives.
- Partner with operations and commercial teams across Terminals and Rail on pricing, cost control, and profitability.
- Provide financial input into tenders, contracts, and operational decisions.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities to enhance business performance.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports across South Africa and Namibia operations.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and complete management accounts.
- Perform variance analysis and provide business insights.
- Ensure compliance with Group reporting standards and deadlines.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes across multiple operations and entities.
- Monitor actual performance versus budget and forecast.
- Provide variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Support long-range planning and operational forecasts.
Cost Control & Performance Management
- Analyse operational costs, margins, and performance indicators.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and efficiency improvements.
- Develop and monitor KPIs and performance dashboards.
- Support operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
Cashflow & Working Capital Management
- Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning.
- Monitor and manage receivables, payables, and inventory cycles.
- Improve working capital performance and cash discipline.
- Liaise with Group Treasury as required.
Financial Controls & Compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls across finance processes and entities.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax legislation, and Group policies.
- Manage balance sheet integrity and reconciliations, and asset registers.
- Drive standardisation and process improvements across operations.
Audit, Risk & Governance
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Resolve audit findings and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and governance requirements.
- Maintain adherence to internal policies and procedures and statutory obligations.
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Oversee VAT, corporate tax, and statutory submissions across jurisdictions.
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with regulatory authorities across jurisdictions.
- Liaise with external advisors and Group Tax as, when and where required.
Capital Expenditure & Asset Management
- Support CAPEX planning, budgeting and financial evaluation.
- Prepare business cases and investment analysis.
- Monitor project performance and returns.
- Ensure accuracy of fixed asset registers and accurate fixed asset accounting.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Support and enhance finance systems (e.g., SAP) and other reporting tools.
- Improve data quality, reporting processes, and automation.
- Strengthen financial processes and internal controls.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead and develop finance teams across locations.
- Manage performance, workload allocation, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Build capability within the finance function.
Minimum requirements
Qualification/s
- CA(SA) or equivalent qualification preferred.
Experience
- 5–10 years’ relevant finance experience.
- Experience in multi-entity and/or cross-border environments advantageous.
- Exposure to logistics, terminals, or rail operations preferred.
- Strong financial reporting, controls, and business partnering experience.
