Introduction
Grindrod Bay Stevedores is looking to secure the permanent services of a suitably qualified and experienced Operations - Supervisor to join the Operations Department in Durban to carry out duties of overall supervision & maintenance of products, materials, machinery, and infrastructure on site and vessel thereby ensuring efficient and systematic material flow
Job description
• Enhance continuous efficiency improvements
• Effective communicating and reporting with all relevant personnel
• Manage relevant service providers
• All vehicles, machinery and equipment on site
• Receiving and loading out of all materials efficiently and accurately on-board vessel
• Issuing of instructions to subordinates
• All SHERQ activities and equipment in his/her section [safely, health, environment, risk, and quality]
• Identify deviation from production objectives and implement corrective action
• Manage all staff planning according to the operational requirements. For example, shift rosters, overtime etc.
• Daily planning of all operational requirements including staff, equipment etc, forthcoming shifts ahead
• Maintain hygiene & housekeeping requirements within your departments
• Maintain and enforce adherence to PPE requirements
• Evacuation routes and access to emergency equipment to be maintained non-obstructive
• All relevant adherence and maintenance concerning the SHERQ policies and procedures applicable to your department
• Conduct risk assessments on every task and train employees on SOPs originating from risk assessments
• Review operating procedures timeously
• Report all incidents, hazardous conditions and emergencies immediately
• Conduct performance appraisals

Minimum requirements
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Code 08 Driver's licence (PDP would be an added advantage)
• Valid Forklift certificate up to 32 ton or be willing to undergo such training.
• Operations Management qualification or equivalent would be an added advantage
• Minimum 5 years in stevedoring industry
• 3 - 5 years’ experience on Foreman or Supervisory level
• Break Bulk experience
• Experience with Grab & Hopper and skip loading operations
• Code 08 Driver's licence (PDP would be an added advantage)
