Job description

General Responsibilities
  • Support with effective “Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality” (SHERQ) systems for operational, engineering, construction and administrative activities in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Identify deviations and implement corrective action.
  • Enhance continuous efficiency improvements. 
  • Be presentable at all times and ensure that all equipment being utilized is maintained, presentable and acceptable.
  • Keep all departments Line Manger SHERQ, National Manager SHERQ, Engineering Manager and Operations Manager fully advised of all relevant SHEQ matters.
 
SHERQ
  • Implement, maintain and ensure compliance with Grindrod Integrated ISO Management System. 
  • Ensure effective communication regarding SHEQ to all relevant parties.
  • Compile and distribute timeously accurate weekly/monthly SHEQ Statistics
  • Ensure effective Contractor Control in terms of Construction and other Regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with SHERQ Objectives & Targets
  • Ensure compliance with the OHS act and regulations. 
  • Ensure compliance with BHASOBHA Golden Rules. 
  • Ensure compliance to Environmental strategy and standards. 
  • Monitor and follow up on incidents that occurred within Grindrod and from external Service Providers.
  •  Monthly site and safety file audits. 
  • Raising awareness on SHERQ related matters during pre-shift toolbox talk meetings/ induction section or face to face with relevant departments.
  • Facilitate safety induction for Grindrod personnel and contractors.
  • Issuing PPE to employees as and when required. 
  • Ensuring that emergency team is appointed in your area of responsibility. 
  • Ensure that emergency drills are conducted in your area of responsibility. 
  •  Ensuring compliance with the Grindrod Permit to work system.
  • Ensuring that the risk assessment and standard operating procedures are reviewed at per Grindrod SHERQ procedures.
  •  Ensuring that training is conducted on risk assessment and SOP.
  • Being part of the investigation team and ensuring that incidents opened on the system are investigated, controls are implemented and closed off.
  • Promoting safe behaviour in the workplace. 
  • Ensure that noticeboards are updated with latest SHERQ statistics and information, 
  • Following up the actions that are opened on the SHERQ dashboard system. 
  • Ensuring that the planned/unplanned task observations are conducted by relevant departments.
  • Ensuring that first aid boxes are inspected, correctly stocked and inspected by trained personnel. 
  • Reporting any unsafe act, conditions and near misses, following up until they are closed off. 
  • Be on standby as per operational requirements.
 
General Tasks 
  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the Health, Safety, Environment & Quality policy, and procedures are observed as well as all relevant safety and the provisions of the relevant Health and Safety & Environmental Legislation.
  • Ensure that legal requirements are updated and communicated to those that have a need to know. 
  • Reporting to Line Manager SHERQ, National Manager SHERQ, on any SHERQ related deviations. 
  • Inform other departments on any SHERQ related concerns that you identify onsite and ensure that it is closed off/resolved. 
 

Minimum requirements

Qualification / s
  • Grade 12/ Matric 
  • Relevant diploma/degree
  •  SAMTRAC, Internal Auditor certificate.
 
Experience
  • 3 years’ experience in a SHERQ environment. 
  •  Exposure in an industrial SHERQ environment, ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
