Introduction
Grindrod Container Solutions is seeking to secure the permanent services of skilled Container Handling Equipment Operators to join their Cape Town team. The successful candidates will be responsible for the loading, offloading, stacking and movement of laden and empty containers in accordance with operational plans and compliance standards. The operators will ensure equipment is inspected, maintained and operated safely to optimize yard productivity and turnaround times in the depot
Job description
The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Offloading, stacking, locating, placing and loading shipping containers as instructed.
- Completing work sheets.
- Operating the machine with due regard to people and other vehicles.
- Inspecting container stacks daily and repack / rectify where necessary.
- Checking the condition of the machine and reporting any faults.
- Ensuring operational execution as per loading instructions issued by gate operation.
- Operating the container handling equipment in accordance with safe working procedures.
- Ensuring container stacks are safe and enabled for efficient operational flow.
- Ensuring that daily check sheets are completed on the machine before usage, any defects reported immediately to the reporting line manager.
- Ensuring that container handling equipment is refuelled daily before commencement of operations.
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
Minimum requirements
Qualification / s
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
- Valid Container Handler License (both Empty Container Handler & Reach Stacker)
Experience
- Minimum 3 years related experience in a container depot.
Required skills
The following experience is preferable:
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Ability to handle heavy equipment
- Understanding of depot safety procedures
- Time management and attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
