Fleet Maintenance Management

• Schedule and coordinate preventative maintenance and servicing of trucks and trailers.
• Monitor vehicle mileage and engine hours to accurately plan upcoming services.
• Plan and manage preventative maintenance repairs to minimise operational downtime.
• Maintain accurate service schedules and maintenance records.
• Conduct routine greasing and general maintenance on trucks and trailers as required.
• Ensure all vehicles and trailers are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition.

Daily Vehicle Inspections

• Conduct daily mechanical inspections on trucks and trailers to confirm that they are in a safe and operational condition.
• Inspect and verify the condition of:
• Lights and indicators
• Engine oil levels
• Coolant levels
• Wiper blades
• Tyres and tyre pressures
• Air systems
• General vehicle condition
• Ensure all defects identified during inspections are recorded and addressed before vehicles leave the depot.
• Conduct weekly roadworthiness inspections in conjunction with drivers.

Breakdown and Incident Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for all vehicle and trailer breakdowns.
• Diagnose vehicle and trailer faults and assess the severity of breakdowns.
• Determine whether repairs can be completed on-site or require external service providers.
• Carry out minor to medium breakdown repairs to minimise delays to operations and improve fleet availability.
• Coordinate roadside assistance and external service providers for major repairs when required.
• Log breakdowns with OEMs and service providers where necessary.
• Assist in documenting and reporting vehicle accidents, damages, and incidents for internal investigations and insurance purposes.

Technical Repairs and Support

• Perform first-line mechanical fault finding and repairs on trucks and trailers.
• Repair and replace minor electrical components and faults, including but not limited to:
• Light bulbs
• Electrical connections
• Wiring-related faults
• Replace and repair damaged or faulty:
• Air lines
• Suzi cables
• Basic brake and air system components where applicable
• Support workshop and service providers with technical information and fault diagnostics.
• Ensure all repairs are completed safely and according to manufacturer specifications.

Service Provider and Vendor Management

• Obtain, review, and manage repair quotations.
• Ensure repairs are completed to the required standard and within agreed turnaround times.
• Liaise with OEMs, repair workshops, and external service providers.
• Maintain stock levels of critical spare parts, oils, lubricants, air lines, suzi cables, bulbs, and consumables required for minor repairs.

Fleet Compliance and Safety

• Review daily vehicle inspection checklists submitted by drivers.
• Report vehicle defects and arrange repairs where required.
• Ensure all vehicles meet legal roadworthiness requirements.
• Ensure all vehicle licences, Certificates of Fitness (COF), and statutory compliance documentation remain valid and up to date.
• Promote and enforce safe operating practices throughout the fleet.
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards and transport regulations.

Fleet Administration and Reporting

• Maintain comprehensive records of vehicle repairs, maintenance, services, and costs.
• Monitor fuel consumption and investigate abnormal trends that may indicate mechanical problems.
• Prepare maintenance and performance reports as required.
• Monitor vehicle tracking systems and driver behaviour reports to improve operational efficiency and compliance.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in fleet maintenance, fleet support, transport operations, or a related technical environment.
• Proven experience working on commercial trucks and trailers as a qualified technician.
• Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults on heavy vehicles.
• Experience coordinating vehicle servicing, maintenance schedules, and breakdown management.
• Experience conducting vehicle inspections and first-line repairs.
• Experience working with OEMs, repair workshops, and external service providers.
• Knowledge of transport legislation, vehicle licensing, and compliance requirements.
• Experience using vehicle tracking and fleet management systems.
