Introduction
A position has become available for a Financial Accountant -Rail to join our dynamic team, based in Durban or Pretoria, South Africa.
Job description

Month-end and Year-end:
  • Prepare month-end journals, calculations, and revaluations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Reconcile accounts and prepare TB for review, including completing commentary and key reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate results are presented by no later than the fourth working day of each month.
  • Conduct HFM reporting, including uploading and generating reports.
  • Manage and oversee the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare the year-end audit pack.
 
Accounting Operations:
  • Analyze debtors aging for long outstanding and unpaid invoices.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly cashflow forecasts for submission to management and Treasury.
  •  Loading of payments on the bank.
  • Prepare the monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including TFR revenue/wagon hire and haulage reconciliations, and NRZ reconciliation. 
  • Prepare AFS to submit to auditors and assist with audit workings.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports as required.
 
 Accounts payable and receivable:
  • Prepare creditor reconciliations and manage payments.
  • Ensure all supplier invoices have purchase orders raised against them.
  • Check that purchase orders are raised in a timely manner prior to creditor payment deadlines and month-end.
  • Send statements and invoices to debtors.
  •  Set up monthly meetings with senior management to discuss working capital items.
 
Audits:
  • Provide support during external and internal audits.
  • Review and evaluate financial controls to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
 
Process Improvement and Compliance:
  • Review and analyze current processes, and identify areas for improvement to streamline operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Inventory and Stock Count Management:
  • Attend stock counts of the Rail companies and ensure compliance with group policies and procedures.
 
Fixed Assets:
  • Prepare fixed asset forms monthly.
 
Tax:
  • Prepare quarterly tax packs

Minimum requirements

Qualification / s
  • Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Accounting
  • CA (SA) preferred
Experience
  •  3 -5 years experience in financial accounting.

  • Strong understanding of local accounting regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and other necessary software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to work with different levels of management.
