A challenging opportunity has become available for a self-motivated, driven and innovative individual to be appointed as a Driver. The successful candidate will be required to work alternating shifts including alternate weekends.
Job description

The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
 
Deliveries and collection of documents 
  • Collect clearing and forwarding documents from clients, suppliers, transporters, customs agents, internal departments, and other designated parties.
  • Deliver documents to the appropriate border post or other authorised destination.
  • Ensure that all documents are delivered within the required timeframes and before applicable operational or customs cut-off times.
  • Plan daily deliveries according to urgency, border operating requirements, traffic conditions, distance, and delivery deadlines.
  • Obtain confirmation of receipt for all important documents delivered.
  • Return signed delivery notes, acknowledgements, receipts, or other proof of delivery to the relevant department.
  • Immediately report any unsuccessful delivery, delay, missing documentation, or change in delivery requirements.
 
Maintenance & Upkeep of company vehicle
  • Ensure the vehicle is maintained/serviced as per requirement.
  •  Report any incidents/damage that may occur.
  •  Report any unauthorised use of the company vehicle.
  •  Vehicle to always be kept clean and tidy.
  • Adherence to company “Vehicle Usage Policy”.
  • Conduct inspection of the vehicle before and after use.  
 
Customer Service and Professional Conduct
  • Represent the company professionally when dealing with clients, border officials, customs authorities, transporters, clearing agents, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate politely and professionally at all times.
  • Provide accurate information without making unauthorised commitments on behalf of the company.
  • Maintain a service-oriented approach, particularly when handling urgent or time-sensitive requests.
  • Protect the company's reputation through responsible driving, professional conduct, punctuality, and appropriate communication.
 
Vehicle and Route Management
  • Operate the company vehicle responsibly and in accordance with applicable road traffic laws and company policies.
  • Conduct basic daily vehicle checks before commencing duties, including fuel, tyres, lights, brakes, fluids, and general roadworthiness.
  • Maintain the vehicle in a clean and presentable condition.
  • Allow sufficient travel time for traffic, road conditions, border congestion, delays, and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Report vehicle faults, accidents, breakdowns, traffic incidents, or other problems immediately.
  • Ensure company vehicles are not used for unauthorised personal purposes.

Minimum requirements

Qualification / s
  • Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's licence appropriate for the company vehicle.
  • A Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) or equivalent is advantageous where applicable to the vehicle and duties.
  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to use email, messaging applications, GPS/navigation applications, and basic document-management systems.
  • A certificate or short course in logistics, transport, supply chain, clearing and forwarding, or customs administration would be an advantage.
Experience
  • 2–3 years' proven experience as a messenger, driver, courier, logistics driver, or similar position.
  • Previous experience in a clearing and forwarding, freight, logistics, transport, customs, or border-related environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working under strict deadlines and coordinating multiple deliveries.
  • Experience maintaining delivery records, trip sheets, proof of delivery, and vehicle records.
  • Previous experience dealing with customs officials, clearing agents, transporters, or logistics personnel would be an advantage.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Good understanding of the importance of customs and clearing documentation.
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good GPS and route-planning skills.
